How do I round numbers in Excel?
Use the ROUND function: ROUND(number, decimals). For example, =ROUND(3.14159, 2) returns 3.14. For rounding up use ROUNDUP, for down use ROUNDDOWN.
Excel offers several rounding functions — pick the one that fits your needs.
ROUND — Standard Rounding
Rounds according to mathematical rules (5 and above rounds up):
=ROUND(3.14159, 2)
Result: 3.14
Other Options
- ROUNDUP — always rounds up:
=ROUNDUP(3.1, 0)→ 4 - ROUNDDOWN — always rounds down:
=ROUNDDOWN(3.9, 0)→ 3 - INT — drops the decimal part:
=INT(3.7)→ 3 - TRUNC — truncates to specified decimals:
=TRUNC(3.14159, 2)→ 3.14
Rounding to Tens, Hundreds
Use negative decimal places:
=ROUND(1234, -1)→ 1230 (to tens)=ROUND(1234, -2)→ 1200 (to hundreds)=ROUND(1234, -3)→ 1000 (to thousands)
